Lyceum-Northwestern University Policy on Sustainable Sourcing of Aquatic Food

Life Below Water

Lyceum-Northwestern University is committed to promoting sustainable practices across all aspects of campus operations, including the sourcing of food. In alignment with SDG 14 – Life Below Water, the University has established a policy to ensure that all food derived from aquatic ecosystems served on campus—such as fish and seafood—is responsibly and sustainably harvested.

The policy requires that all campus food suppliers provide verifiable documentation confirming sustainable sourcing practices, including compliance with local and international fisheries management standards. The University actively prioritizes suppliers certified by recognized sustainability bodies, such as the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) or equivalent local authorities.

In addition, the University integrates awareness programs for students and staff to highlight the importance of protecting aquatic ecosystems and reducing overfishing. Through these measures, Lyceum-Northwestern ensures that its food procurement practices contribute to the conservation of marine biodiversity while promoting sustainable consumption patterns within the campus community.
