L-NU Promotes Profitable and Sustainable Livelihood for Women
Lyceum-Northwestern University (L-NU), through its Master in Business Administration and Doctor of Business Administration programs, actively contributes to SDG 1: No Poverty by providing community-based entrepreneurship training aimed at improving the livelihoods of disadvantaged women. One significant initiative involved a livelihood development program for single mothers and vulnerable women, conducted in partnership with the Women’s Center of the City of Dagupan, where L-NU is located.
During the training, participants learned practical candle-making skills and were equipped with essential knowledge in business management, including simple bookkeeping and basic accounting. These skills enabled them not only to create marketable products but also to operate their small enterprises with confidence and accountability.
With the support of the local government, a dedicated production facility was established for the women’s group, and starter supplies were provided to help them launch their microbusinesses without financial burden. This assistance played a critical role in ensuring the financial viability and social sustainability of the enterprise.
Empowered with skills, resources, and ongoing mentorship, the women successfully organized and began operating their livelihood project, which now supplies products to the local market. Their plans to expand their customer base and scale production demonstrate the success, resilience, and long-term sustainability of the business.
The Faculty of Business Administration continues to provide free consulting services, ensuring that the women receive continuous support in strengthening and growing their enterprise—ultimately contributing to poverty reduction and inclusive economic growth within the community.
