University Initiatives Supporting the Protection of Aquatic Ecosystems
Life Below Water
Lyceum-Northwestern University actively contributes to the protection and restoration of aquatic ecosystems through regular coastal clean-up drives conducted in partnership with local government units (LGUs), the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), and the Dagupan City Police. These initiatives not only remove waste and reduce pollution but also serve as hands-on learning and engagement activities that strengthen environmental stewardship among students, faculty, and nearby communities.
Through programs such as the annual International Coastal Clean-Up led by the Biology Major Society and the Department of Natural Sciences, the university promotes practices that safeguard marine environments, including waste minimization, proper disposal, and ecosystem monitoring. While carrying out these activities, the university effectively engages with public-sector partners and applies science-based practices that support the reduction of ecological damage. These efforts demonstrate the university’s commitment to directly contributing to technologies and practices that prevent harm to coastal and marine ecosystems, aligning with the goals of the THE Impact Rating.
