Project Title: Anti-Smoking and Anti-Vaping Advocacy Program
Sub-Activities:
- Anti-Smoking Awareness Seminars
- Student Campaigns Against Vaping
The Lyceum-Northwestern University’s Anti-Smoking and Anti-Vaping Advocacy Program was designed to strengthen the university’s commitment to maintaining a smoke-free and vape-free campus, in accordance with Republic Act No. 9211 (Tobacco Regulation Act of 2003) and Executive Order No. 26, s. 2017 (Establishing Smoke-Free Environments).
Aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3.3.6, the program aimed to educate students about the health risks of tobacco and e-cigarette use, foster behavior change, and promote a culture of wellness and prevention within the academic community.
Impact: The program had a measurable impact on promoting healthy behavior and awareness among students. Participants demonstrated a significant increase in knowledge about the dangers of tobacco and vaping, and many committed to maintaining a smoke-free lifestyle.
The student-led campaigns empowered youth advocates to take leadership roles in promoting public health, fostering peer influence, and sustaining smoke-free environments. The initiative reinforced the university’s compliance with national tobacco control laws and strengthened its image as a health-promoting institution.
