Recognizing that students are the foundation of every higher education institution, the Office of Student Affairs conducts an annual election for student councils at the department, college, and university levels. This structured process culminates in the general election of the University Central Student Government (UCSG), the highest governing body representing the student body. Once elected, these student leaders are formally inducted by the Vice President for Student Affairs, who represents the Office of the University President. This induction not only signifies the official inclusion of students within the university’s leadership structure but also affirms the institution’s commitment to honouring and uplifting the “student voice.” The Vice President for Student Affairs plays a critical role in bringing students’ perspectives to the highest level of university governance, the University Executive Committee (EXECOM). Chaired by the University President, the EXECOM includes senior university leaders: the Executive Vice President, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Vice President for Research, HR Director, Registrar, Dean of Graduate Studies, Dean of the College of Medicine, and the Chief Financial Officer. The EXECOM convenes regularly to discuss and address key university issues, with each leader presenting agenda items relevant to their area of responsibility. Through this structure, the VP for Student Affairs ensures that students’ views, needs, and concerns are integral to the decision-making process. This approach reinforces the university’s commitment to inclusivity and ensures that the student body’s voice is consistently and meaningfully represented at the highest level of institutional leadership.
